Picture sleeve for the Frantic Elevators’ single Searching For The Only One. It’s in red, yellow and black. I can’t tell what the photo is.

When Mick Hucknall first appeared on the scene, in what I described in this review as “scruffy Mancunians”, everyone commented how like John Lennon he sounded. A few years later, he’d reinvented himself as a soul singer with Simply Red. It was quite a change of image but it didn’t do his career any harm.

Adam's, by the way, was a short-lived club night promoted by former Eric’s owner Roger Eagle, and best remembered for a gig by Bo Diddley. According to Bill Sykes’ excellent Roger Eagle biography, “Sit Down! Listen to this”, Mick Hucknall also DJ’d at Adam’s, as well as singing with the house band The Lawnmower.
