Thanks so much for posting this Penny. I feel so blessed to have seen Mike Peters live again several years ago. He was playing a 1/4 filled concert hall with floor seating in Northeast Florida, and by his energy and enthusiasm you would think he was playing a full arena.

They were a blast of fresh (h)air!

I liked them, but they were pretty reviled by the music press at the time, and I think it probably was because of that big hair moment on Top of the Pops. I read somewhere that they themselves had no idea about just how long their hair had grown on that US tour in 1983, and were quite shocked themselves when they watched themselves back on the show! There must have been some serious of Harmony that night!

And, by all accounts, a lovely bunch of likeable lads from Rhyl, which immediately endeared me to them as I have very fond and strong memories of childhood summer holidays there.

Thanks, Penny, for taking me back, a tad indirectly, to Sunnyvale…

And, of course, rest in peace, Mike…68 guns and all!

To be fair, it was hard to take the hair seriously. But the good stuff outweighs that in hindsight.

A fantastic band and great front man who put the pride back into North Wales.

Also saw Dead Men Walking with Mike Peters in that line-up. How prescient and appropriate was the last word of your review 'strength'?

Penny, I've been wondering if I should write anything about The Alarm following Mike's death. Now i will just share your post. Your take on that gig mirrors mine when I saw them December 83 at the old Hammersmith Palais. It's a night I've never forgotten and is only second behind Echo and The Bunnymen at The Albert Hall on my 18th birthday (also 1983) as my most memorable gig. Thanks for this
